HISTORY
In 1969, Slow Scan Television carried the first live images from the lunar surface of the moon during Apollo 11: black-and-white frames encoded as audio tones and beamed 238,000 miles through space, and then decoded on Earth. This technical necessity for space travel allowed humanity to witness its own first steps on another world.
PROCESS
This digital painting was transformed into an SSTV audio tone (Scottie DX mode). The result is a playable audio tone that functions as a visual archive.
When decoded with any SSTV app or receiver, the 1/1 image reappears, with artifacts of analog transmission included. Every playback result is unique.
Tools Needed: Any SSTV app/software or ham wave receiver
Mode: Scottie DX (shortwave-compatible, high fidelity)
Output: Original 1/1 image from Toppy Eton's Incorruptible Relics and Saints Collection. Slight variations between playbacks are normal and part of the artwork’s living, analog nature.
Playback of this audio tone may be used for personal reconstruction of the art.
